Seasonal allergies are bad enough when you have to cope with them on your own behalf, but when your kids are struggling with the same thing, it’s another level of difficulty entirely.

Typically, kids are more susceptible to summer allergies and will get heavier symptoms like sneezing, respiratory issues and nasal drainage, which can mean a lot of frustration for them.

At that point, it becomes imperative that you get your child’s symptoms under control, for both their sanity and your own. Most kids will tolerate a certain amount of sniffling and sneezing, but after a while, it can start to affect their mood and temperament.

1. Vitamin C — Kiwis, oranges and strawberries are all high in vitamin-C and they’re easy sells for your kids. In addition to being great for your child’s immune system, vitamin-C has an anti-inflammatory element that can reduce nasal and sinus irritation, thereby cutting reducing sneezing and other symptoms.

You can get vitamin-C supplements, but chances are you can get your recommended daily dose from just eating the aforementioned foods.

2. Drink water and turn on the air conditioning — If you’ve been stingy with the air conditioning, now would probably be a good time to turn it up and cool things down a bit.

Not only will you and your family be more comfortable, but air conditioning can actually reduce the effect of allergies in your home and cause you to have fewer symptoms when you’re indoors.

If you can do that while also encouraging your suffering child to drink more water, these two strategies alone have the potential to provide a significant amount of relief.

3. Aromatherapy and a vaporizer — Aromatherapy using a vaporizer can help ease nasal allergies due to pollen, and it can often do so in a quick manner. Vaporizers do a better job of getting the helpful scents from herbs and essential oils into the air, which can help alleviate the symptoms of summer allergies.

While you can still use aromatherapy without the vaporizer, it’s a helpful solution, particularly during the summer months, since it eliminates the need for burning a hot candle.

4. Calcium and Magnesium — Loading up kids with supplements isn’t a good idea, though in the case of calcium and magnesium, it will be helpful during allergy season. You can easily find a gummy version of the calcium supplement, and while magnesium might require a little more digging, you can likely find a gummy version of that as well.

Aim for about 250mg of calcium and 125mg of magnesium twice a day during the peak of allergy season.

5. Keep them Comfy

You don’t want to see your child robbed of their enjoyment of the summer months, so do what you can to keep them comfortable, especially while they’re in the house.

Protecting them when they’re playing outside will be a bit more tricky, but if you can play your cards right indoors, dealing with the symptoms that come when in direct contact with pollen will be much easier.

We have a dog, two toddlers, and a smelly man that live in this house. So smells are NOT an uncommon occurrence. And I am constantly trying to think of creative ways to reduce the odors in here. There are a few things I can do to make it better and I’ve recently received the opportunity to implement one of those things. Filtrete Filters by 3M. There are 3 different filters that I can use throughout the year depending on what we need.

Scented candles, air fresheners, and sprays only masks the odor. It doesn’t eliminate it. And some of these products may release harmful chemicals or soot. I am not downing these products. I have used them myself on multiple occasions, but I want to make sure I am using the safest products for my family while getting rid of the smell.

So you can see, the Odor Reduction filter has it all. It will work not only on the smells, but on our allergies as well. I’ve only had our Odor Reduction filter in for a couple of days but I can already tell a difference. The house definitely has a nicer, cleaner smell.

They are very easy to install. Our unit is in our tiny attic. All you do is align the arrow on the new filter and slide the new filter in. It is so easy and regular maintenance reduces stress on the system and reduces energy. So remember to change your filters frequently!

I must be CRAZY, but I would love to take my family on a road trip. We would go to a Braves game, maybe a theme park, and of course end the day, preferably, beach side.

When I was in eighth grade, my whole grade went on a "Georgia Studies Tour". We went and saw the Okefenokee Swamp, Savannah, St. Simon's Island, and multiple civil war battle grounds along the way. I never realized how much there was to do in the state that I live in and so much that was so close to home! I would love to take my family to experience our great state the way that I did.

My husband and I went to the same middle and high school. We are two years apart in age, so we never met each other. His class didn't get to go on this tour and he has regretted it. I would love for him to get the opportunity to experience something so "epic".

My husband and I enjoy learning through our expeditions. And with his busy life at work, we sure could use some quality, enriching time together as a family of three.

Child Safety and Baby Proofing go hand in hand. We want our little ones to be safe. But there may be some things we don't know. Here are my tips for Baby Proofing. And an awesome giveaway from SANUS.

1. Get Down On Your Child's Eye Level: First thing you should do is get down on your hands and knees and see what is in your child's eye line. One of the things we think of as parents is the plug outlets, but what about those outlets that just have to have something plugged in it? 3. Think About Daily Chores: Okay so you have to feed these people, right? And does your oven get hot? What about if they grab the handle. The toilet sure looks like fun to take a dive in. I am a HUGE fan of baby gates and shut doors with covers on the handles to solve these issues. We have a Summer Infant Sure & Secure Walk Thru gate for our kitchen. When I'm cooking, no little ones are allowed in. And as far as the covers on the door knobs, Hubby got over them quickly and realized they were a necessity, yours will too.

4. Consider a Curious Mind: Children get themselves in every kind of predicament you can imagine. So try and think on their level when baby proofing. Consider every detail and what they might use to put in their mouth, untie, wrap around, etc.

5. Look Up: What do you see? Ooo the bright colors on the TV sure look fun to try and touch!

Did you ever lose your way while blogging? That's how I have kind of felt lately. My blog started out as a way to keep track of my pregnancy and then just share deals with friends & family. Some free products found here, I received through the Kroger Summer Grilling Bzz Campaign. I love Kroger brand products. The burgers were juicy and fit perfect on the soft slider buns. The cola was refreshing and the chips made the perfect side. I bought more cola later as they had a 4/$9 deal that I just couldn't pass up! I love feeding my family fun foods and when I shop at Kroger, I know I can do it without breaking the bank! :)
