How Do Baby Sling Carriers Enhance Parent-Newborn Bonding

Baby sling carriers have become an increasingly popular tool amongst new parents seeking to maintain close physical proximity to their newborns. The equipment enables you to hold your baby against your body while leaving your hands free. This practice, often referred to as babywearing, is said to benefit the bonding process, which is crucial in the earliest stages of a child's life. Bonding is the intense attachment that develops between parents and their baby. When used correctly, slings serve not just as a means of transport but as a facilitator of the intimate connection that is essential for a child’s development. Researchers highlight the importance of the attachment bond formed during early interactions, as this special connection is foundational to the child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. The proximity provided by baby slings can support this attachment process, making it easier to tune into your baby's needs and respond more promptly. Moreover, studies suggest that the close contact encouraged by babywearing can be particularly beneficial for encouraging breastfeeding, attending to cues for comfort, and potentially even spurring language development. Parents considering the use of baby slings should be mindful of the safety guidelines and choose the right type of carrier to ensure a positive experience for them and their baby.

Key Takeaways

  • Baby sling carriers play a pivotal role in enhancing parent-newborn bonding.
  • The attachment bond is critical for a child’s comprehensive development.
  • Adhering to safety guidelines is crucial while using baby sling carriers.

Benefits of a Sling vs. Soft Structured Carriers + Giveaway

I love babywearing my son. I wasn't aware of all the different types of wraps, carriers and slings out there with my daughter. I wish I had done more research about it. There is so much more info about babywearing out there to day. I love the hands-free ability to carry your child and how much easier it makes nursing on the go.

Many areas have baby wearing support groups, where you can learn to use different carriers and even borrow carriers to try out. Breastfeeding support groups (La Leche League, Breastfeeding USA, etc.) can also be a good place to try out a carrier & find out how to use one, since many breastfeeding moms use baby carriers. I have loved a few different types of carriers, but here are the Benefits of a Sling vs. Soft Structured Carriers.

Excited for Vacation with the SUKKIRi Baby Ring Sling

I received complimentary products to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I love baby wearing. I love having my hands free, but still snuggle my baby close when they need it. But none of my carriers are really able to go in water. And at the beach or by the pool, being having hands free would be awesome. That's why I was so excited when I received the SUKKIRi Baby Ring Sling to review. We enjoyed using it for most of the summer, but I'm really excited to use it when we go to the beach over fall break in less than two weeks!

Bringing Home Baby: Preparing an Older Sibling

Bringing Home Baby: Preparing an Older Sibling

Wow. This pregnancy is going by so fast. I am 37 weeks pregnant today (full term) and tomorrow is the first day of the month I'm due! There are some great articles about how to prepare your older child for a new sibling. Some of my favorites are from fellow bloggers. I have been trying multiple techniques to prepare SweetPea. I want a non-medicated birth this time around, but my true fear is after the baby is here and how my big baby is going to react. Here are a few great reads that I have compiled since I have no experience with this one. :)

Dirt & Boogers: Preparing Toddlers for a New Baby - Books
JaMonkey: Talking to Your Kids About a New Baby

I love the idea of giving her a hospital gift bag from the baby at the hospital. So I decided to make SweetPea one. I found a ton of cute ideas online and took many from those I found on Pinterest. Here is what is in our bag:

Twigtale Personalized Storybook - Big Sister Lizzie {Review}
CafePress.com Big Sister Shirt {Review of CafePress}
Nuby Squid Squirter {Nuby Reviews} - I received a shipment for being a Nuby Mommy blogger for the new baby, but wanted to make sure I got something for SweetPea too. This goes hand in hand with getting them a gift when the baby gets a gift so they don't feel left out at showers and such. PLUS, a bath toy for her Aunite's house since she doesn't have any!
Little Cosmetics Pretend Makeup {Review} - something to play with at Auntie's house
Work books, coloring book, and crayons for hospital
Flash cards for hospital
Kandoo Hand Wash - to wash those hands so many times!
Sidewalk Chalk - so she (again) has some toys to play with at Auntie's house.

How did you prepare your children for a new baby?

It's Official #BobaAmbassador

Boba Family
Website
- Facebook - Twitter

I am so excited to give baby wearing a real try with the upcoming arrival of baby number two, due late March. I tried with SweetPea, but I didn't have a good carrier like the ones that Boba provides. But running after a 3 year old all day, I am going to have to be able to breastfeed & hold my newborn all at the same time. So that's why I'm excited to announce that I am officially a Boba Ambassador!

Boba has five main products right now that I think you all will love.
The *NEW* Boba Carrier 4G - $128 (review coming soon!)
The Boba Air - $65
The Boba Wrap - $38 (I have my eye on these)
The *NEW* Boba Vest - $55
The *NEW* Boba Hoodie - $70 (so great for the Winter Vortex)
There are also several different accessories you can find, like the Boba Mini (I am loving this & want one for SweetPea), teething pads for your carrier, a Stuff Sack, and replacement parts.

Boba 4G Carrier Dusk

Boba was nice enough to send me The Boba Carrier 4G in Dusk as a welcome gift (comes with an infant insert), so be sure to check back for a full review on that once little Appleseed arrives in late March. I'm thinking based on the stats, that the Hubby could even test it out on SweetPea before then!

The company says, "Boba designs thoughtfully crafted products for active parents who want the time and freedom to create a real and caring bond with their child, while living life to the fullest." You can really see this mission come through in the products they sell. I am so excited to be an advocate for this brand! Make sure to check out Boba at http://www.bobafamily.com/ and be on the lookout for more from Boba!

Boba Ambassador

I’m a Boba Ambassador. I participate in Boba events and online conversations, and receive thank you gifts for my participation, but all opinions and experiences expressed are my own.

Infantino SlingRider & CozyRider Carrier Review

SlingRider

I asked for this when in registered. My boss had one and I wore her daughter around when we went to [a bounce house place]. I loved it for just walking around. But I needed it for doing chores around the house. I tried pulling the straps up where she would closer so nursing would be easier but then I felt like she was being smushed.

The other issue I had that although it was suppose to be breathable, Sweet Pea would sweat a ridiculous amount even just in a onesie. NOT a fan of this carrier and I don't feel like I can recommend it.

In doing this review I found out about a recall back in March 2010. Which is scary enough in itself. I received this as a gift from my sister-in-law but she bought it at a consignment store so who knows if mine was a recalled one or not. I would hope not though. It was brand new in the box.

CozyRider

Ugh. I actually bought this one. We were going to Stone Mountain and I wanted a carrier so she could be held like she wanted but not be so heavy on my back.

In the image here it shows the legs at a wide stance but I felt like this carrier gave Sweet Pea a wedgie. And it put a lot of the weight on my shoulders still instead of all over feel. It also was nearly impossible to put her in there by myself. I went grocery shopping and decided to use this carrier but I almost never got her in and then she again was uncomfortable because I was. I wouldn't recommend this carrier either. In the picture we are at the lake again later. As you can see, she is not very comfy.

Does anyone have a good carrier that they would recommend?

Seven Slings Carrier Review

All over the web, I saw this product advertised. I even saw other bloggers say how much they loved these carriers and that they were such fine quality. The deal was you submit a code and get a free carrier and then just pay shipping and handling.

Shipping and handling was around $12 and although that would have been a great price for a carrier in general, this carrier was seriously just a piece of fabric with instructions for how to fold the fabric different ways to make different types of slings depending how old your child is.

I can not recommend this product as I feel like for the price that would normally be charged to buyers without the promo code ($39.95 or $43.45 if you get the size exchange insurance which you WOULD need), this product should be more than just a piece of fabric.

I did not feel any relief for my back, you are still holding your child and can not truly be hands free, my daughter HATED it even if she looks happy here (notice she has her pacifier in), I was uncomfortable and so was she, and it was nearly impossible to put her in it without someone there to help me. The whole reason I wanted a carrier was so someone could hold my very clingy baby while I did laundry.

I would recommend getting a different carrier if you want hands free mobility. I unfortunately can not recommend this carrier.
