Simple Ways to Jump Start Your Resolutions

I’ve partnered with Green Giant, Optimum Nutrition, vitafusion, and L’il Critters as part of an Influencer Activation and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

2018 was not my year, but I hunkered down and killed it in 2019. I didn't need a resolution, I just saw that I needed to change things and I did it. But resolutions can be a great way to make goals for the new year. One of the things that I focused on as my goal (not a resolution per say) in 2019 was my family's health. After losing 60 pounds, I have found simple ways to make the necessary lifestyle changes to jump start those healthier goals and continue on a path to better health in the New Year!

1. Find or make healthier versions of the food you love. And plan ahead. One of the hardest foods for me to control was potatoes and that's why I am loving Green Giant Veggie Hash Browns and Cauliflower Gnocchi. Green Giant Veggie Hash Browns have the same hearty flavor and crunchy bite you love from hash browns with one full serving of cauliflower in each serving making them a splendid choice whether a breakfast side or a snack. Green Giant Veggie Hash Browns are additionally free of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. Meal prepping the foods you love and bringing them with you can not only be budget friendly, but a great way to meet some nutritional goals!

2. Take supplements. I use vitafusion and L’il Critters products to help my family to improve their intake of vitamins because they are a delicious way to be nutritious. L’il Critters and vitafusion are the only gummy vitamin brands with "clinically proven absorption"*. (*For Vitamins C & D3 in products that contain those nutrients.) L'il Critters also contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors, high-fructose corn syrup, synthetic dyes, or gluten or dairy.

3. 30 minutes of heart elevated activity daily. Don't be discouraged! Everyone has to start somewhere. You won't be mad in six months for starting today, I promise. I would start with 30 minutes on the elliptical on the lowest setting. I found the treadmill too hard on my knees. But finding an activity you enjoy is key. I joined CrossFit and feel like I have found my tribe, but I also still enjoy Pilates and Zumba classes as well. To keep us fueled currently, my husband and I use Optimum Nutrition products to support our wellness goals. By adding protein to our daily diet, we have helped increase our activity by fueling our muscles. Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey contains 24g of protein (primary source is Whey Protein Isolate which means much of the carbs and fat have been "isolated" out of the product).

4. Simple swaps can make a big impact. Examples of these would be maybe to park further away in the parking lot or going for a walk with your dog instead of just letting them run around the back yard. Find little ways to get more movement in your day and you will see big changes in the long run.

5. Drink your water. Drinking water help reduces water retention which causes bloat. Water flushes out the toxins. Water helps digest the healthier foods you are eating which actually gets you the vitamins/minerals that are in them. If you need to flavor your water a little so you can drink it more regularly, there are zero calorie options available.

Another tip I have is to enjoy your non-scale victories. For me, there were so many! Being able to actually wrap a hotel towel around myself again, being able to hike with my family without feeling like I was dying, seeing my collar bones again, getting to buy new clothes because nothing fit or even fitting into my clothes more comfortably, an honestly the list goes on. The scale can be a nice tool, but it is only one measurement. And sometimes it can be discouraging, especially if you feel you are making progress. Remember nutrition is number one, but you need an equal balance of cardio and strength training as well. And don't forget you got this! Find your motivation and let's crush those goals in 2020 to make this your best year ever!

    1. I don't like the word "resolution" in general. I prefer goals because life happens and goals can be altered to fit your life better. Resolution sounds like if it doesn't happen exactly like this then you will fail. The important thing is even if you have a bad day to remember why you made your goal in the first place and keep moving forward by starting again the next day.

  11. My daughter recently decided it was her time to get fit. She has PCOS and can't loose weight easily and after having twins she gained quite a bit of weight. She started about 6 months making little changes and she's doing awesome. It's little things like these tips that make all of the difference.

    1. It really does! Especially if someone is like I was and very inactive/never taught healthy habits. Everyone has to start somewhere and for each person their journey is different, but I absolutely believe as long as you start (no matter how "small" - which is relative) then that is all that matters.
