Benefits of a Sling vs. Soft Structured Carriers + Giveaway

I love babywearing my son. I wasn't aware of all the different types of wraps, carriers and slings out there with my daughter. I wish I had done more research about it. There is so much more info about babywearing out there to day. I love the hands-free ability to carry your child and how much easier it makes nursing on the go.

Many areas have baby wearing support groups, where you can learn to use different carriers and even borrow carriers to try out. Breastfeeding support groups (La Leche League, Breastfeeding USA, etc.) can also be a good place to try out a carrier & find out how to use one, since many breastfeeding moms use baby carriers. I have loved a few different types of carriers, but here are the Benefits of a Sling vs. Soft Structured Carriers.

1. Slings are a multi-use baby product. You can also use it for a changing pad, a blanket, floor play mat, carseat/stroller canopy, and so much more.

2. It tends to be easier to nurse in a sling wrap. Because of their versatility with how they are tied on each individual person, slings tend to be easier to nurse in simply because you can maneuver it in a position that is both comfortable for you and baby while covering you completely. Now this isn't to say you can't nurse in a soft structured carrier because it definitely can be done. I have just found that many babywearing advocates favor a sling or wrap for this. But nurse on, mom! Wherever and whenever because fed is best!

3. Slings are easier to get the right fit. Soft structured carriers have a ton of buckles while slings have an easy to adjust ring.

4. Slings tend to be better for newborns. Although soft structured carriers are better for older babies, I like how easy skin-to-skin can be with a sling. I love easy it is to keep them bundled close to mommies heart just where they want to be. There are many different positions for baby in slings, wraps and other baby carriers – lying down in the cradle hold is NOT the only option: baby can sit up and face the front, sit up and face you, lie down, sit on your hip, or even ride on your back.

5. Budget Friendlier Option. Quality soft structured carriers tend to be more expensive than slings.

6. Water Friendly. There are slings designed to specifically go into the water. They wick away moisture where soft structured carriers aren't designed for tis type of activity.

I recently put together a list of Unique Baby Shower Gift Ideas for the New Mom and of course I included Comfy Joey Slings. Not only do they have Linen Slings and water slings, but doll slings for the littles as well. 9. I would love to win this for my baby and me. I have always wanted a ring sling, but it’s always been outside my budget. This would be awesome to win! I’d choose the marmalade mesh sling, I think- perfect for summer time! Then i could hang onto my baby in the water and still be able to help my other kiddos.
