Reasons to Consider Making Your Family Home Energy Efficient

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Review Wire Media for BlindSpotz.

My mother has a fixed upper of a house. But she wants to make it more energy efficient for a number of reasons. The main reason being to save money. My concern with her older house is how to make it more sellable. By making it more energy efficient, I feel we can accomplish both of our goals. Here are a few reasons to consider making your home more energy efficient.

Reasons to Consider Making Your Home Energy Efficient

1. Make Your Home More Comfortable. We changed our thermostats to save on energy costs and even with blankets we are still freezing! One of the best ways to stop freezing is via choosing energy efficient radiators, which will keep you warm without spending too much money. If you want to keep the comfort of your home having nicely designed energy-efficient radiators rather than huge ones, then BestElectricRadiators are one of the choices to go for. Blocking airflow with weather stripping, caulking and insulation is not only the most cost–effective way to make a home more energy efficient but it also goes a long way in making it more comfortable.

2. Raise Property Value. Energy Efficient homes are becoming a priority for potential buyers. Energy Star rated appliances and over all of the house are consider desirable and essential for most potential buyers.

3. Help the Environment. If you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint, having an energy efficient home and appliances can go a long way. Severe weather is already hurting property owners across the country and climate change can also damage public infrastructure, causing inconvenience and higher property taxes to make repairs.

4. Save Money. And of course, lower electric and gas bills are the biggest benefit of making your home more energy efficient. But the typical energy efficiency audit costs between $300 and $500. Not only is that expensive, the contractor will come when it is convenient for him (the middle of a single day) not when it is the best time to figure out where your problems lie (usually at night or on a colder day).

Blindspotz is a completely new way to think about home efficiency testing. BlindSpotz is a Do-It-Yourself Cold Sensor that's easy-to-use and removable while being able to detect and diagnose cold spots so you can fix them.

There are many blind spots in your home. Garage, windows, cabinets, attic, outlets, crawl spaces, doors, and window seals are common ones. And while BlindSpotz sensors might surprise you where they find heat loss, do not put them on windows or aluminum.

So how does it work?

1. Set. Firmly rub the perimeter ring of the sensor until it is grey. The friction clears out any color activation and sets the sensor for deployment. It is very similar to a sticker when placing on, but it is more easily removable. We used on our walls that are sill builders grade paint and it did not remove any paint when removed.

2. Deploy. Place the removable sensors throughout the house on doors, walls, inside closets, ceilings, adjacent windows, and electrical outlets. They are small and inconspicuous. Leave in place for at least 48 hours when temperature is below 32 degrees outside. DO NOT put on windows, metal, or aluminum frames.
3. Read. Take pictures of the sensors that measure cold spots of 50 to 55 degrees; all four sections of the sensor will be color-activated. The temperature is recorded when the color bar is activated. As more colors appear, the bigger the cold issue you have is. When you see 50 degrees F or 55 degrees F on your BlindSpotz sensor, you have a cold problem that needs to be fixed.
4. Fix. Send the pictures to fixthecold@blindspotz.com and receive a variety of solutions to fix your energy problems as well as a coupon at participating retailers and contractors.

An 8 pack of BlindSpot can be purchased on Amazon, RV $9.99.
