The Dead Sea Squirrels: Season 1 Soundtrack Review

If your kids love music, silly characters, and learning about the Bible, I have a new soundtrack you’ll want to check out! The Dead Sea Squirrels: Season 1 Original Soundtrack is such a fun way to bring the faith-filled lessons from the popular animated series into your everyday family life, even when the screen is turned off.

I was especially excited about this soundtrack because it comes from Mike Nawrocki, the co-creator of VeggieTales and the longtime voice of Larry the Cucumber. If you grew up with VeggieTales like I did, you already know that Mike has a gift for taking biblical truths and making them fun and memorable for kids.

The Dead Sea Squirrels takes that same idea and gives it a whole new story.

Who Are the Dead Sea Squirrels?

If you aren't familiar with the series yet, The Dead Sea Squirrels follows 10-year-old Michael and two very unusual squirrels, Merle and Pearl. The squirrels were preserved in Dead Sea salt for 2,000 years before being brought back to Tennessee and unexpectedly coming back to life!

Because Merle and Pearl have firsthand knowledge of Jesus' teachings, they help Michael and his friends navigate everyday problems while teaching them important biblical lessons along the way.

The animated series is based on Mike Nawrocki's children's book series, and Season 1 is available on Minno. The 13 episodes cover topics that kids can actually relate to, including kindness, honesty, self-control, worry, trusting God, mercy, and more.

And now families can enjoy the music from those episodes anywhere!

A Soundtrack Kids Will Actually Want to Listen To

One of my favorite things about this soundtrack is that it doesn't feel like you're putting on "educational music" just to teach your kids something.

There are 22 songs on the album, and they are fun, silly, catchy, and full of biblical truth. That combination is exactly what I want in Christian entertainment for my kids.

There are songs about everything from treating others kindly and having self-control to the birth of Jesus, His ministry, the Kingdom of God, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.

I also love that the songs can be enjoyed without watching the show. This makes the soundtrack perfect for car rides, school drop-off, playtime, quiet time, or even listening together as a family.

Sometimes finding Christian entertainment that keeps kids interested can be a challenge. I love it when something can be entertaining for children while still giving parents peace of mind about what they're hearing.

"Tiny Squirrel" Is a Favorite!

One song that immediately caught my attention is "Tiny Squirrel," performed by Mazzy Mason and written by Steve Taylor.

It is exactly the kind of fun, quirky song that kids are likely to want to hear over and over again. And let's be honest, if you have kids, you know that when they find a song they love, you're probably going to hear it approximately 47 times in one car ride!

That's actually one of the things I love about music like this. When kids enjoy a song enough to sing it repeatedly, they're also repeating its message.

Some Big Christian Music Names

Another really fun part of this soundtrack is the lineup of Christian artists who contributed their voices and talents.

You'll hear artists including Matthew West, Ellie Holcomb, Bart Millard of MercyMe, Katy Nichole, Mac Powell of Third Day, Ashley Cleveland, Steve Taylor, and several others.

Having recognizable Christian artists involved makes the soundtrack feel like a legitimate Christian music project rather than simply background music created for a children's show.

And the songs cover a surprisingly wide range of musical styles and themes, so the album stays interesting from beginning to end.

Why I Love the Screen-Free Option

As a mom, I really appreciate anything that gives my kids something positive to enjoy without putting another screen in front of them.

We live in a world where it's incredibly easy for kids to spend hours watching videos, playing games, or scrolling. So, when I find something that can take the lessons and characters they enjoy from a show and turn them into something they can listen to instead, that's a win for me.

The Dead Sea Squirrels soundtrack gives families that option.

You can listen in the car, during breakfast, while your kids are playing, during a family devotional, or even at church-related activities. The music gives kids another way to hear and remember biblical truths without needing to sit in front of a television.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think The Dead Sea Squirrels: Season 1 Original Soundtrack is a really fun addition for families who enjoy Christian children's entertainment.

I love the combination of humor, music, Bible lessons, and memorable characters. More importantly, I love that the messages are things I want my children to hear and remember: kindness, honesty, mercy, self-control, trusting God, and learning about Jesus.
