Homemade Waffle Mix Recipe

Today is National Waffle Day! And to celebrate, here is a great and easy recipe to make waffle/pancake mix in bulk! Making pancakes in bulk and freezing them is one of my favorite homemade meal prep breakfast ideas for kids.

Homemade Waffle Mix Recipe

Making food from home is a great way to save money. And I have found that pre-making options ahead of time is a great way to save time as well. I love making breakfast for my family on the weekends and although homemade can be the way to go, it's so time consuming! PLUS pre-making the homemade mix makes breakfast for dinner nights run so much smoother too.

This is also a fun recipe to get the kids involved in the kitchen. And if they are a picky eaters then it can be a great tip to get them to try different foods.

For the waffle mix (makes about 5 waffles):

- 4cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
-1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar

To make the waffles:

- 1 cup dry waffle mix
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter

Make the mix:

1. Combine all ingredients. ( you could easily double or triple the recipe)
2. Store sealed in air tight container in a cool dry place for up to six months.

To make the waffles:

1. preheat & lightly grease griddle, pan, or waffle maker over medium high to high heat.
2. Combine 1 cup of waffle mix with egg, 1/2 cup milk to 1 cup milk. Add milk as needed.
3. Pour 1/3 cup batter and cook until bubbles on the surface of the waffles have popped (about 3-4 minutes). Flip and cook until the underside is ight golden (another 1-2 minutes).

Essentials that will come in handy:

Waffle maker machine or griddle - I bought a tiny waffle maker that I saw on TikTok from Target for only $10 and it has been the best. Funny story, my husband registered for a waffle maker when we got married. Someone bought it for us. I did not want it because it was HUGE and took up so much space. But then my husband used it and never cleaned it so I got rid of it. Of course that we have a larger house, I wish I had kept it because there was so much we could have done with it. Lesson to the husbands, it isn't your wife's job to clean up after you.

Tub container to hold mix - I have been all about organization lately. Check out @organizewithtracy on Instagram.
