Six Ways To Make Home Education Fun

When it comes to homeschooling, the whole world is thrust into a situation where we are all home educating the kids - whether we like it or not. Of course, plenty of parents choose to home educate naturally, but those who don't go for home education usually have to then make adjustments. It’s stressful, we’re not going to lie.

However, you can make home education fun. You can teach your kids without needing to sit them down and teach them a lesson: education is everywhere should they want to partake in it. You can learn with Science Videos online, craft paper and glue, running round the house on scavenger hunts - it’s all available for your kids! With that in mind, let’s take a look at how you can make home education fun.

1. Surprise the kids! You can make lessons and schoolwork so much more fun when you add in a little surprise and magic to your day. You can be energetic and surprise them with the topics you choose and inject so much excitement into your learning.

2.Rewards always go down well: children do well when they feel that they have something to work towards. Adults thrive on praise, but children know exactly how to work hard when they have something to motivate them. Think about stickers and stars over candy and chips. Expand their bedtimes and give them concentrated time with you, too.

3. Family field trips are educational and you can have so much fun by going on the road and learning together. Think about the topics that you are teaching and link your trips to those topics. History topics could take you across the country and geography could see the kids doing their own navigation and map reading on the way. What’s more fun than getting involved?

4. Lessons can be boring, but if you make them into a game you’re going to teach them so much more! Don't worry about boring worksheets, get out and make this a whole game! Kids learn when they’re engaged and happy and they’re happier playing games than concentrating on worksheets, right?

5. If you choose topics together as a family, you can really engage the kids and get them excited in their education. You don't have to follow a pattern with learning. You get to learn what you want, as you want to. Don't forget to only set up home school an hour or two a day and you can keep their interest.

6. Learning how your children learn is a great way to hit the nail on the head with their education at all times. If you cater to the way that they like to learn, you’re going to get the best from your children.

Home education doesn't have to be a frustrating slog. You and your children can learn together and really enjoy the topics you are learning. You can really see the light in your child’s eyes when you teach in a way that works for them - why not start today?

  3. You are so right! The quickest way to turn a kid off of learning, is to make it hum drum, boring!! To the point that it gets to be a chore! Then you’ve lost their concentration and interest. Road trips helped my kids. Having a hands on visual and having a conversation about it, stays with them for a long time as a memory! Two thumbs up & pin worthy! Thank you for sharing!

  4. I love #6. My daughter HATES to learn by reading or being told. She likes to figure things out by herself, or watch others. Works SO much easier to go with her style.

  5. You have some great ideas. I think adding fun to learning makes it so much better. I know as a kid if I got bored in class I got NOTHING from it.

  6. I definitely agree with these ideas! One of the things I loved about homeschooling was how creative I got to be when planning my daughter's lessons.

  7. I think a lot of parents are discovering just how hard it is to teach their kids. I like the idea of also teaching life skills like cooking or balancing a checkbook, to interest kids more.
