Preparing for Pool Days and Celebrating International Learn to Swim Day

This post was sponsored by SwimWays as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

My family lives in water all summer long so learning to swim and water safety is a TOP priority to instill in my children. I want them to love the water as much as my husband and I do, so we have worked consistently on making them feel comfortable around the water while ensuring safety. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14. Preparing for pool days includes a refresher on pool safety.

Pool Safety Tips for Children

Because we are constantly at the pool all summer long, I wanted to share some important pool safety tips in honor of the upcoming International Learn to Swim Day. These are tips that even long time pool owners may need a refresher on! There is nothing wrong with staying up to date on safety.

Pool Safety Tips:

1. Never Leave Children Unattended Around a Pool. Something can happen. Children are curious. And even the most well behaved kids can have accidents.
2. Teach Children HOW to Swim. That's where SwimWays Step Program comes in. Make sure you update your child's swim trainers as needed. I personally HIGHLY recommend swim lessons. My daughter was very timid around the water. She would basically just stop using her legs or arms, but wanted her face above water whenever she was in the pool. We tried everything and then finally decided to look into local swim lessons. They were the best thing for her and she has swimming independently ever since. My son isn't as timid so I don't think they will be necessary.
4. Install proper barriers, covers, and alarms on and around your pool or spa.
5. Learn how to perform CPR on children and adults. Red Cross has resources on where to find classes near you.

We have actually already been enjoying swimming in our neighbors pool and my in-laws pool this year. That is the wonderful thing about living in Georgia! With my neighbors having a new pool this year, I have asked them all the necessary questions about it so my children are safe whenever we go over there.

Paw Patrol Swim Flotation Device for Children

Each year we reevaluate our children's swimming abilities and upgrade their swim trainers as needed. My son used a SwimWays Baby Spring float that we loved when he was an infant and we took it everywhere so he could enjoy the water. We love and trust the SwimWays brand because they make quality products that our family enjoy while being dedicated to water safety and teaching children to swim.

This year my son needed a new swim trainer. The Paw Patrol Swim Trainer (featuring Chase and Found at Target) is Swim Step 2 in the SwimWays Swim Step Program which means he likes his independence, but he is still learning how to balance and coordinate his paddling. It will ensure your child's safety in the water and is even US Coast Guard approved! My son loves looking down and seeing Chase on his vest too. I will being sharing our full experience in my next SwimWays post. And when my son is ready, SwimWays Step 3 products will be there to help him gain the confidence he needs.

International Learn to Swim Day 2019

Celebrating International Learn to Swim Day

In May, pools across in the country start opening. Although it has been warmer this year already, we usually open up our pool in time for National Learn to Swim Day which is the third Saturday of May and this year it is on May 18, 2019. National Learn to Swim Day was founded by SwimWays in 2012 and is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety and the benefits of learning how to swim. SwimWays Corporation has extended this event to include international locations this year and thus changing the name to International Learn To Swim Day! This year they are excited that the characters from Paw Patrol are helping celebrate during International Learn To Swim Day events around the world. And so are we!

How do you and your family plan on celebrating International Learn to Swim Day? Do your children like Paw Patrol? What do you think of the Paw Patrol Swim Trainers?

  24. I didn’t know there was a National Swim Day, but I love it! I don’t care if someone is an expert swimmer, a refresher could save a life!! I was with a bunch of high school friends, when one of them drowned in a quarry that we swam in a lot. Plus he was my next door neighbor! His mom was devastated! She was a divorcée alone with four children. He was her oldest child. So not only could learning how to swim and the refreshers courses - could save lives and heartbreak!! I made sure my kids learned how to swim! Great idea and pin worthy! Thank you for sharing!
