4 Reasons to Work for Yourself

Working for yourself can be one of the most fulfilling things you ever do. If you are a parent, you already know what it is like to have a baby, to nurture it, and see it grow. As your kids get older and you have more free time, working for yourself gives you a chance to develop your business in a similar way. Being your own boss is not just satisfying—there are other benefits too.

Creativity

One advantage of working for yourself is that you will have an outlet for your creativity. Often, working for someone else doesn’t give you the freedom to explore different facets of your abilities. Being your own boss means that you have to rely on yourself to complete a myriad of various tasks and that can be fun if you feel like your creativity has been stifled.

Flexible Schedule

Working for yourself also means that you can enjoy a flexible schedule. When you are self- employed, you may be able to focus on your work efforts in your current downtime and still be there for all the moments that matter most to you. Family dinners, dance recitals, little league games—you can be there for all of it.

Flexible Location

Location can be flexible when you work for yourself too. Depending on the work you choose, you may be able to work from anywhere that you have an Internet connection, including swim class, waiting for your kids to get home from school, and while your kids are doing their homework.

Limitless Earnings

When you work for yourself, your potential for earnings is limitless. You are only limited by how often you want to work. You can spend a few hours a week to make a little extra spending money or take advantage of every moment and bring in serious money.

Choosing the Right Type of Self-Employment

For some people, the right self-employment will be an extension of what they already do. A graphic designer or an accountant may simply open their own shop. For other people, a retail business is a better fit. They will find or make things to sell. However, starting a business from scratch is not for everyone. There are opportunities, like direct sales, that let you be your own boss with a ton of resources and little investment. For instance, with a business like Amway, you can work for yourself without the risk of being completely self-employed or alone in their work. The direct sales company lets you set your own hours and work at your own pace—and it couldn’t be easier.

This is how Amway works: First, you register as a seller and pay a small fee. That registration gives you access to all of Amway’s training tools as well as its mentorship program. Once you have a handle on what you want to sell, you can start reaching out to people in your network or circle, setting up parties to demonstrate Amway products and taking orders. You make a commission on every order you take. It’s that easy.

Conclusion

Working for yourself gives you an outlet for creativity and limitless earnings while giving you the flexibility to work anytime from anywhere. Maximize these advantages by choosing the right type of self-employment.

  1. I think the hardest thing about working for yourself is when that means you work at home. It can be hard to maintain a regular work schedule.

    1. Working from home means being able to meet personal deadlines, having drive/ambition when no one else is watching, and a LOT of dedication. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. I believe the hardest thing for me personally is not seeing a regular pay check especially at first.

  3. I really like your thinking and positive points for working at home! This article was definitely pin worthy! I really like working at my own pace on my own time. You have the leisure of letting your own creative juices flow. No drama, jealousy, or back stabbing that usually goes on in an office environment! No rushing in the morning or taking kids to child care. It’s a win-win with saving money! No gas money and wear and tear on your vehicle. Or paying a babysitter or buying new outfits for work! Those expensive chipping in for lunches, office parties, good-bye gifts when people leave the department or company! Thank you for sharing your input!

I thinking working for yourself would be so rewarding, but I know it would come with challenges too. I've been encouraging my hubby to venture out and work for himself in the future. I think he'd be a great consultant, but its a little scary to leave out from the workplace he's always known. A flexible schedule and location would be a dream honestly!
