Family Cruise Vacation Essentials

So over the summer, my family and I went on a cruise vacation for our 10th wedding anniversary. We got married on a cruise and we thought, "What an awesome way to celebrate a decade together." A wonderful time was had by all. I do have a few tips that I learned along the way, some essentials that will hopefully help you if you decide to take a cruise vacation too.

Invest in Passports. No they are not required, but I highly recommend them. There is a waiting period on getting them and there are fess associated with getting one, but I do not regret the decision to get them. You can NOT fly back if something goes wrong with only your birth certificate. That means if your child breaks their leg (or something worse), they will have to wait in pain until you can sail back home to get it fixed. I like to prepared so this was a no-brainer for me. It also it makes going through the lines to board the boat so much easier.

Bring a Carry On Bag with Bathing Suits. Before your luggage gets to your room, you are free to walk around and enjoy the ship. The main thing to do - go swimming. We brought a carry on with our swim suits, our kid's puddle jumpers, sunscreen, our flip flops, and my big floppy hat.

Stock Up on Vitamin C and Hand Sanitizer. There are SO MANY people on a cruise. Germs are everywhere even if they keep the ship clean. I loved our ship because there was always someone cleaning and they were cleaning things that I would never even think to. But still...Germs. Are. Everywhere. And with so many people, it is just nice to try and stay ahead of the game if you can.

Don't Forget Your Sea-Band. Natural nausea relief with no side effects. If you don't know if you are going to have issues with sea sickness, I highly suggest bringing these. OTC meds can make you drowsy and miss your part of your trip, just ask my in-laws. I used Sea Band Mama when I was pregnant with my son. I never noticed any morning sickness until I decided I didn't need them any more.

Sea-Band is a knitted elasticated wrist band, which operates by applying pressure on the Nei Kuan acupressure point on each wrist by means of a plastic stud. The bands can be worn on each wrist whenever you feel nauseous. Scientific studies have proved that one of the most effective drug-free treatments is Acupressure on the P6 (NeiKuan) point between the two central tendons near the wrist. Sea-Bands are reusable and machine washable. They also make them in adult and child sizes. To find Sea-Band in your area, click HERE. Please follow package instructions and visit sea-band.com/why-seaband to learn how to use your Sea-Band!

Hopefully you won't have to deal with sea sickness as all. When I was 21, I never had any issues and although I did feel the boat more this time, I never felt queasy. I do often feel nauseous on road trips, so I will definitely be bringing along my Sea-Band when we go on our family road trip this fall break.

  1. I've been on one cruise. I like the swimsuit in carry on trick. Wish I'd know that one. Passports are very important.

  4. I did not know or realize about needing the passport if you had to fly home. In truth I think all parents should get them for their kids.

  8. I'm so glad you shared. We haven't taken a family cruise but if we ever do I am going to keep these tips in mind. We've talked about it, but don't feel our youngest can handle a tip like this yet.
