DIY New Mom Care Package

My sister-in-law is pregnant with her third baby, so I have decided to give her a "New Mom Care Package". My sister made me one with each of my kids and they have been my favorite gift each time, hands down. The great thing about this care package is that it is perfect even for the mom who has everything because these things are going to be needed time and time again. These are also items that go beyond diapers, shampoos, etc. These are items that the mother-to-be may not have thought to put on her registry.

DIY New Mom Care Package
But Paste Review

Baby Onesies. And I mean a ton because baby will spit up, have blow outs, and everything else ALL. DAY. LONG. My son went through more clothes in his first week of life than we had on hand. And I'm talking boring onesies that the new parents won't feel guilty to just throw away because they couldn't get the stain out.

After Birth Care Products. Like pads. It's seriously something you don't think about, but it is VERY needed and much appreciated. What the hospital provides is not functional for walking around. I had to go ask my husband to pick some up on the way to the hospital the second day, but I still needed more at home.
Breastfeeding Products. Nursing, bottle feeding, formula feeding. Whichever way they may decide to feed their baby, they will most likely, at the very least, still need nursing pads. Leakage happens. But a tube of lanolin cream will be a life saver too.

Netflix Gift Card. They will spend hours and feeding the baby. And they do it frequently. It can get boring, but a Netflix subscription would come in handy!

Baby Shower Gift Ideas
Colic Drops. Not everyone will use them or need them, but the new mom will be so grateful to have them on hand if they do.
Hand Sanitizer. Because germs are gross. You should still wash your hands before you hold their baby. It honestly is a no-brainer to me.
Baby Wipes. They not only clean baby up during a diaper change, but they can be used to clean up spit up and any other little messes that life throws at them.

Meal Vouchers. A food delivery service would be nice, but it's unrealistic. My in-laws would bring me food whenever I asked (they live only 3 minutes away) and with my son they stocked our pantry and fridge with easy to re-heat food. New mothers are SO hungry, but they probably won't have time to cook or prepare anything. So either bring them food or offer a "coupon" that they can redeem for future food.
Boudreaux's Butt Paste. This has been my favorite diaper cream especially when my son was teething. It has a funny memorable name, but it works and works well. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste kicks diaper rash fast with safe, simple ingredients. Their formula was developed by a pharmacist and a father of four. It heals on contact and is paraben-free, preservative free, and phthalate-free, and contains no artificial fragrances.

Everyone has different tastes and needs, that's why I like that Boudreaux's Butt Paste comes in three different varieties. Original Butt Paste for minor or moderate rash, Maximum Strength for more stubborn rash, and (my favorite) All Natural for minor or moderate rash but with natural ingredients and is petrolatum free.

  1. I would like baby lotion in a new mom package. I love the smell of lotion on babies.

  2. I would have diapers, wipes, #ButtPasteMom, thermometer, tylenol, lotion, baby wash, hand sanitizer, bottles, and washcloths in the New Mom care package. There are so many things I can think of, just not sure how I would put it all inone care package.haha

  3. I received a new mom care package after having my son. It was so handy and well used! One thing that was included in my package was things specifically for me, like nail polish, massage certificate and chocolate. What new mom doesn't need a nice massage and chocolate?!

  4. I like to give diapers. Another thing that is important are the first aid kits or grooming kits. Often new moms don't think about the nasal and nail issues.

  5. This is a great idea. Very thoughtful. I love the idea of personalizing a gift basket like this. making sure everything in it is useful. I also love the idea of a basket for mom, and not just baby. Everyone focuses on the new baby.

  6. These are great gift ideas and every new mom would love to have all these items. The after birth products are very important as the pads in the hospitals stink. I am also a firm believer in colic/gas drops.

  7. Depending on whether the new Mom is going to use disposable diapers or cloth--I always add a bunch in. Also all the baby powders and creams (now that I know about Butt Paste-I will include that also)and shampoo--and pacifiers-burping clothes--and of course some onesies!!

  8. New mom care packages should have... everything you included- plus maybe those waterproof crib pads? They're great for everything. I still have a few sitting around even though the kids are past that stage because they've come in handy.

  9. I would make sure to include a great bath tea and some mama cloth!! Maybe some fuzzy socks and then some baby goodies :) Such a fun idea!!

  10. For working Mom's every added chore makes it hard for new Mom's so a care package with things they might need when starting back to work will come in handy too. Who wants to get home after driving in a blizzard or thunderstorm to find out you only have two diapers left and you forgot to pick them up on your way home so you have to go back out in the storm to pick up diapers. Even if their choice is to use disposables I like to put a couple cloth diapers in the care package just for emergencies like that. Of course the Boudreaux's Butt Paste to go with them is a must have. A gift certificate for take out to a place that delivers. That way if the baby is sleeping no need to wake them and no cooking for the tired Mom. Another is one you mentioned, feminine products they are a must have.

  11. This is such a great idea! Especially for those of us who haven't had children yet and struggle to work out what to buy new mums. I've had a few friends recently have babies or tell us that they are pregnant so I'll have to keep these ideas in mind!

  12. I wish I had a friend like you when I had my daughter. I would have loved the idea of having something like Netflix to watch while breastfeeding. What a great idea! I love the addition of a mommy gift to the mix along with essentials like butt paste!

  13. I would've loved something like this after my first. The netflix card is awesome. I had no idea how much time is spend in the middle of the night watching bad tv. And onesies are everything. There aren't enough of those in the world for a newborn!

  14. I think I would add a bouncy seat. It might seem like a weird addition, but it's a great place to set a newborn while cooking dinner or taking a much needed shower.

    1. I do think they make great gifts, but it would be a little big in a care package. LOL

  15. I would definitely give some of this paste for the newborn. Nothing worse than a diaper rash. I'd also put something in for the mom. She's needs pampering with some lotion or bath beads.
