That’s why I was so relieved when I discovered the HALO SleepSack® wearable blanket. It felt like a game-changer in our home, and now it’s one of those baby items I recommend to every new parent. HALO’s wearable blankets have become a standard in safe infant sleep—so much so that over 1,000 hospital nurseries across the country use them through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep® Initiative. Instead of traditional blankets, hospitals are swaddling newborns in SleepSacks from day one.
But the best part? HALO didn’t stop at infancy.
As Sweet Pea transitioned from crib to toddler bed, I started noticing a familiar pattern, she was still kicking off the covers at night. Now that she's a full-fledged toddler in her “big girl bed,” keeping her warm without sacrificing safety (or my sleep!) has become the next challenge. Luckily, HALO has a solution for that too: the SleepSack Early Walker and SleepSack Big Kids, now available in a cozy, lightweight-knit fabric that’s perfect for all seasons.
These versions are designed for mobile toddlers and big kids, with clever foot openings that allow them to safely walk around while still keeping the comforting feel of a wearable blanket. I can’t tell you how adorable Sweet Pea looks walking around in hers! It’s not just cute, it’s practical. The new knit version is breathable and soft, which makes it perfect for our upcoming Florida vacation. We keep the air conditioning super cold when we travel, and I always used to wake up several times a night just to make sure she was still covered up. With the HALO Big Kids SleepSack, I don’t have to worry anymore. She stays warm and snug all night without overheating.
The Importance of Safe Sleep
In the meantime, here are 10 Safe Sleep Tips every parent should know, straight from leading pediatricians and safe sleep advocates:
1. Always place your baby on their back to sleep, for naps and nighttime.
2. Use a firm mattress in a safety-approved crib or bassinet.
3. Remove all soft items like bumpers, pillows, positioners, and toys from the crib.
4. Avoid loose blankets: instead, use a HALO SleepSack® or another wearable blanket.
5. Keep your baby’s face uncovered, no hats or blankets that could slip up.
6. Make sure crib sheets fit snugly and are designed for the mattress size.
7. Never use an adult sheet or blanket on a crib mattress, it can pose a strangulation risk.
8. Monitor room temperature and dress your baby in light, breathable layers.
9. Don’t allow smoking around your baby, including on clothes or bedding.
10. Room-share, but don’t bed-share, babies should sleep in the same room, but on a separate sleep surface.
As parents, we can’t control everything, but we can create a safe, cozy space for our little ones to sleep.
From Swaddle to Toddler: HALO Grows with Your Child
If you’re a fellow parent navigating sleep challenges or just looking for something that works, give the HALO SleepSack Big Kids a try. The new lightweight-knit fabric is especially perfect for transitional weather and travel. And knowing that your purchase helps support SIDS awareness makes it even more meaningful.
Because better sleep isn’t just about comfort. It’s about safety, too.
Great post and helpful giveaway! Only I'm personally an advocate in safe bed sharing (sleep sharing) and whatever sleeping arrangement works best for mom and baby. Bed sharing can be safe as long as everyone is sober and nonsmoking as well as having a firm mattress and baby being between mom and a railing. That being said I've known plenty of babies who are such active sleepers that they make it almost impossible to share a bed with them!
ReplyDeleteI'm a personal advocate of safe bee sharing as well. But we made sure we had a bassinet there on those nights I was over exhausted. :)
