"The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep" by Harvey Karp, M.D. {Review}

Happiest Baby Guide To Great Sleep

I was so excited to receive this book from Harper Collins through One2One Network, so I could read it and share my thoughts with all of you. I know I have said this before, but I am a former nanny. And being such I thought I knew everything about how to raise a child. Of course there is a huge difference between watching a child 24/7 and getting nights and weekends off.

"The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep" explores how to make your child happy not just at night but all day long as well. I knew a few things he mentions, but there are some things that didn't even occur to me until I saw it written down, then it totally made sense.

SweetPea has been very good with sleep for the most part. She has her days. I love that this book includes how to transition them to a toddler bed, which is the next step for SweetPea.

I recommend this book for parents with babies, toddlers, and even older children! If your child has ever had a meltdown, I suggest buying this book. The advice he gives, may seem like common knowledge but he goes into the anatomy of how your child's brain works. And that alone is worth the read.

Infant Toddler Sleep Routine

Dr. Karp provides easy "no-cry" tips that end infant and toddler bedtime struggles in just days and boost your little one's sleep fast. SweetPea never seemed to like swaddling but maybe I just didn't know how! Dr. Karp teaches how to enjoy the benefits - and avoid the risks - of swaddling. Can you believe many states are banning this ancient parenting tool? Karp says, Smart moms should do it. And he will teach them how to do it properly and safely.

My niece has to sleep with a TV on, but she seems so tired and never wants to concentrate on school work. Dr. Karp teaches the importance of powering down. He states, Staring at bright screens at night (TVs, computers, phones) can wreak a toddler and a parent’s sleep.

Do you use white noise machines with your little one? My former boss did, but I never found them appealing (to me). Dr. Karp shares what’s the best white noise (and which ones worsen sleep). He says, The right white noise (low pitched and rumbling) is the key to good sleep—even through teething—for all babies. Plus, it even gives parents more restful sleep.

With "The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep", no longer will new parents have to suffer months of sleep deprivation and no longer will babies have to cry themselves to sleep. We are a no cry household, so this was a huge point for us. Backed by compelling science, common sense and decades of experience, Dr. Karp’s landmark guide will revolutionize how millions of children drift off to dreamland.

Rainbow Smoothie Recipe with Yummi Pouch {Review + Giveaway}

yummi pouch review

Yummi Pouch was kind enough to give me some pouches for SweetPea to try and I must say we are HUGE fans! They were easy to clean and I love that I now know what is in my daughter's pouches. We have tried multiple other pouches products with the food already in them, but I was always uneasy about exactly what kind of preservatives were in them. Plus, these are way more cost effective!

The Yummi Pouch is a convenient, refillable and reusable pouch to hold snacks for your child! It has a resealable top filling area where you can pour your favorite blended foods or drinks. The contents are enjoyed by removing the large cap and drinking from the spout.

It was harder to clean than I imagined. I put them in the top rack of the dishwasher (as stated), but there was still some residue left in the pouch plus the top of the pouch was a little warped (although still worked fine). I then soaked them in hot, soapy water and felt they were clean.

Good To Know:
- BPA, phthalate, and PVC free product
- refillable & reusable
- dishwasher safe
- freezer safe
- Sold in sets of 6 for $14.99 HERE.

SweetPea has allergies. :(

pollen count in Georgia

I took SweetPea to the doctor yesterday. She has been coughing and her eyes have been getting crusty with redness. Then Wednesday, she broke out in hives and eye started swelling. I called the after hours service and talked to a nurse who prescribed Benadryl. But her eye was ridiculously swollen yesterday morning! So I took her in. I had B today, which made the day interesting for sure.

Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis - Pink Eye Due to Allergies

My husband and I both suffer from allergies due to pollen. Usually it isn't a huge deal, as we just stay inside when the pollen count gets high. But Wednesday I had the White Cloud Diapers event, so we were outside all day. Georgia has a very high pollen count this time each year, but it has been in the extremely high category since Sunday, according to AtlantaAllergy.com.

The doctor said she has what is called Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis. According to WedMD, Allergic conjunctivitis is most commonly (although it happens everywhere) seen in areas with high seasonal allergens, like Georgia.

The doctor said Children's Claritin daily, he also suggested something called Claritin Eyes for "preventive care" if we have to be outside, and prescribed her some eye drops for the time being. He said the best thing to do is avoid outside, period, on days with high to extremely high pollen count.

I feel so bad for my baby.

By the way, I love my pediatrician. He said that people who don't suffer from something, usually think others make it up. And that as the mommy, I know best. I love that he makes me feel like I am doing a good job. He was always so supportive of my breastfeeding and is so good with SweetPea. She is always so scared of the doctor's office, but he always makes her laugh and smile.

I got offered to sign up to be a Children's Claritin Mom Crew Member through Mom Select. I didn't initially sign-up because SweetPea's allergies weren't bad, so I didn't think that it would be a fit for us. I hope the program isn't closed, because after all of this, you better believe I am applying. I hate that my baby has to go through this mess.

So that's what's going on with us. How is the weather where you live?
