Natural Teething Relief: Our Experience with Baltic Amber for Toddler Teething

If you’re a parent, chances are you’ve gone through the teething stage. If you haven’t yet, buckle up. Teething can be a rough ride for both babies and parents. Right now, we’re in the midst of SweetPea’s two-year molars coming in and let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart. Between the constant drooling, the clinginess, and those unpredictable mood swings (hers and mine), I’ve been trying everything in my toolbox to help soothe her discomfort.

AmberPieces Baltic Amber Teething Necklace Review

Like most parents, I started with the basics: teething toys, frozen washcloths, and the occasional dose of pain reliever when things got really intense. But this time, I decided to try something I had once been skeptical about, a Baltic amber necklace.

Now before I go any further, I want to be clear: I am not a doctor, and this is not medical advice. I’m simply a mom sharing what worked for my child. Always consult your pediatrician before trying something new, especially when it comes to anything involving your baby’s health and safety.

Infant Teething Schedule

Understanding Teething: What’s Normal and What’s Not

Teething is a natural developmental milestone, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Most babies begin teething around 4 to 7 months of age, but the timing can vary. For us, SweetPea’s teeth have always come in pairs—just when you think you’ve made it through one eruption, another is already pushing its way through. And molars? Let’s just say they’re in a league of their own.

Common signs of teething include:

- Excessive drooling

- Chewing on everything in sight

- Red or swollen gums

- Irritability or restlessness

- Interrupted sleep

- Occasional low-grade fever (though always check with your pediatrician)

By the time the two-year molars arrive, you may feel like a teething pro, but these teeth are bigger, come in later, and often cause more discomfort than the earlier ones.

What is Baltic Amber and Why Do Parents Use It?

Baltic amber is fossilized tree resin that contains a natural substance called succinic acid. This compound is believed to have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. When worn against the skin, body heat is thought to release trace amounts of succinic acid, which may help reduce swelling and soothe discomfort.

Many parents swear by Baltic amber necklaces for teething relief, claiming that they help calm fussy babies, reduce drooling, and even improve sleep. Of course, there are no definitive scientific studies proving these effects, but anecdotal evidence has made these necklaces increasingly popular among natural-minded parents.

How to Use Baltic Amber Safely

If you’re considering using a Baltic amber necklace for your teething baby or toddler, safety should always come first. These necklaces are not chew toys, they're meant to be worn, not mouthed.

Here are some important safety guidelines to follow:

- Necklaces should be worn snugly around the neck: not too tight, but short enough that your child can’t lift it to their mouth.

- Supervise at all times. Never let your child sleep in a necklace. For nighttime use, some parents wrap the necklace around the ankle and secure it with a sock to keep it against the skin.

- Check for quality and construction. Each bead should be individually knotted to prevent scattering if the necklace breaks. The clasp should be secure yet designed to break under pressure to prevent choking hazards.

- Remove during playtime if there's any risk of snagging. You want your baby to be comfortable, but also safe.

I found that wearing the necklace during the day and wrapping it around SweetPea’s ankle at night helped maintain consistent contact with her skin, especially during those peak teething flare-ups.

Did It Help?

In our case, I noticed a marked difference after a few days of SweetPea wearing her Baltic amber necklace. She seemed calmer, less clingy, and the constant fussing eased up. Of course, it’s hard to say with 100% certainty whether the necklace alone did the trick, teething comes in waves, and every child is different.

But for us, it was worth trying. And whether it was the succinic acid, the placebo effect, or just a developmental phase passing, I’ll take the peaceful moments wherever I can get them.

Other Teething Remedies to Try

If you're not sure about amber or want to try other options first, here are a few more natural teething solutions:

- Chilled (not frozen) teething rings

- Cold washcloths or spoons

- Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding for comfort
B - Gentle gum massage with a clean finger

- Soft foods like yogurt or applesauce for sore gums

And when the fussiness gets intense, check with your pediatrician about appropriate pain relief options based on your child's age and weight.

Final Thoughts

Teething is tough, but it’s temporary. What worked for us may not work for everyone, but I always appreciate learning from other parents who’ve been in the trenches. Whether you choose natural methods like Baltic amber, stick with traditional remedies, or mix and match a little of everything, the important thing is doing what feels right for your family.

If you’ve tried Baltic amber, or have another go-to teething remedy, I’d love to hear your experience. Parenting is a journey we don’t have to do alone. Share your thoughts in the comments!

  5. When my friend's toddler had their 2 y/o molars come in, he cried all the time. I'm concerned that the same will happen to my LO in just a couple months when her molars decide to break through, and I'd like to try something different and natural to help ease her pain.
