Homemade Fruit Bar Popsicles: A Zero-Waste Summer Treat for Frugal Families

Summer is in full swing, and that means longer days, splashing in the pool, and trying to keep cool in the heat. With the kids out of school, I’ve been doing my best to create budget-friendly snacks that are fun, healthy, and won’t leave us with a pile of food waste. One of our new favorite summer treats? Homemade fruit bar popsicles!

If you’re looking for a way to beat the heat, stretch your grocery budget, and use up that leftover fruit in the fridge, this recipe checks all the boxes. It’s a zero-waste win, and when you're raising a family on a budget, every bit counts.

Frugal Living & Zero Waste Go Hand in Hand

In our home, we’ve been trying to live more intentionally, cutting back on unnecessary spending, reducing waste, and using what we already have. That mindset is not only good for the environment, but it’s also been a game changer for our grocery budget. Kids grow fast, eat a lot, and if you’re anything like me, you hate throwing away food that could have been turned into something great.

That’s exactly how this homemade popsicle recipe came to be. I had a bunch of leftover fruit from a canceled Memorial Day charcuterie board. We had brought it to the pool, but no one really touched the raspberries or blueberries. Rather than let them go to waste, I decided to whip up a quick batch of fruit popsicles. And honestly? It’s one of the best (and easiest) ideas I’ve ever had.

Homemade Orange Soda Popsicles: A Healthier Summertime Treat for Kids

There’s nothing quite like cooling off with a frozen treat during the hot summer months, especially when you can feel good about the ingredients. We’ve all been there, trying to find that perfect snack that’s fun, refreshing, and kid-approved, but without all the artificial colors, sugars, and ingredients we try to avoid. That’s why I’m so excited to share our latest kitchen experiment: homemade orange soda popsicles made with better-for-you soda alternatives like Poppi and Zevia.

Yes, you read that right, we made popsicles with soda! But not just any soda. These days, there are some amazing brands out there crafting healthier versions of classic favorites. If you’ve never made popsicles with soda before, you’re in for a fizzy surprise that your kids will love.

Why We Chose Poppi and Zevia for Our Soda Popsicles

When I was looking for a fun treat to make with my daughter this summer, I wanted something nostalgic but without the sugar overload. That’s when I remembered a recipe I tried years ago using organic soda. While Veri Organic Soda used to be our go-to, it's no longer available. Thankfully, Poppi and Zevia now fill that space beautifully.

Poppi is a prebiotic soda made with apple cider vinegar, real fruit juice, and lightly sparkling water. It’s low in sugar (just 4-5g per can), contains only around 20 calories, and it actually supports gut health. Poppi’s Orange flavor has a bold citrus taste that’s bright, not too sweet, and surprisingly close to a classic orange soda without the guilt.

Zevia is another family favorite in our house. It’s a zero-calorie, zero-sugar soda sweetened with stevia. Their Orange flavor is caffeine-free, non-GMO, and has no artificial colors (it’s actually clear!). If you’re looking for a soda option with a clean ingredients list and no aftertaste, Zevia is a great choice.

Both of these brands offer kid-friendly flavors that are fun without compromising on health, making them a win for parents and a treat for little ones.

Fruit Punch Infused Popsicles with Tampico

This post is sponsored by Tampico. All opinions are my own.

Popsicles are our favorite summer treat. In fact, they are such a family favorite treat that we even eat them during the winter! They are easy to make and I am loving this fruit punch infused recipe I created.

Tampico is planning an exciting refresh to its brand later this spring, so in honor of its near 30-year history, we’re taking a look back with them on the past few decades and reliving our favorite moments. Join in with the nostalgia and fun and let us know what games, TV shows, foods and more you loved from your childhood in the comments!

Fruit Punch Infused Popsicles with Tampico

There are so many things that I enjoy about being a mom. One of my favorites is sharing memories from my childhood with my children. When I was growing up, Saturday morning cartoons were a huge deal. Every other day of the week was busy with school and playing outside (which is also my children's favorite thing to do). It has been so cold here this winter, so we have been snuggling up on the couch more and streaming our favorite shows. I am a baby of the 80's and thanks to Netflix, we have been able to start introducing our children to the classics, such as Care Bears!

I decided to break out the Tampico, another classic “Splash From the Past,” that has been bringing delicious fruit juice drinks to kids (and moms) since 1989, and make some Fruit Punch Infused Popsicles to share with my kiddos while we watched the multi-colored bears that bring back so many wonderful memories from my childhood.
