Biscuit the Dog Book Crafts & School Activity Ideas Kids Will Love

In my house, Biscuit books have been a favorite bedtime choice for years. But when I went searching online for Biscuit the Dog craft ideas to go along with our reading, I was surprised at how little there was available. That’s why I decided to round up my own collection of Biscuit-inspired crafts and activities. I even designed a free handprint craft printable just for my readers, so you can enjoy a fun keepsake activity with your kids too!

Whether you’re a parent, a preschool teacher, or a homeschooler, I hope this list helps you bring the magic of Biscuit into your classroom or home.

Why Biscuit the Dog Books Are Great for Kids

Before we jump into crafts and activities, let’s talk about why Biscuit the Dog has been such a timeless series for families.

Perfect for Early Readers

Biscuit books use simple sight words and repetitive phrasing, which makes them accessible for beginning readers. Children can follow along easily, gain confidence, and even start reading independently.

- Meet Biscuit
- Goodnight, Biscuit
- Biscuit's Birthday
- My First I can Read: Biscuit
- Bathtime for Biscuit
- Biscuit and the Baby
- Biscuit's Frist Beach Day
- Biscuit's Day at the Farm
- Biscuit and the Great Fall Day
- Biscuit Goes Camping

Engaging Illustrations

Pat Schories’ gentle and warm illustrations help children follow the story without relying entirely on text. Visual storytelling is crucial for young learners, especially in pre-K and kindergarten.

Relatable Themes

From bedtime routines to visiting the library or celebrating holidays, each Biscuit story covers everyday experiences that children can relate to, making reading feel personal and comforting.

Character Connection

Kids love dogs, and Biscuit’s playful, curious nature mirrors the way many preschoolers approach the world. That connection keeps children coming back to the stories again and again.

3. Bone-Shaped Bookmark

Materials: White cardstock, scissors, crayons or markers, optional laminator.

Instructions: Cut out a large bone shape and let kids decorate it with Biscuit paw prints or their name. Laminate for durability. Perfect for keeping track of their favorite Biscuit story. Or a hug a book biscuit bookmark.

4. Dog Collar Craft

Instructions: Help kids design a collar like Biscuit’s, then write "Biscuit" on the foil tag. They can wear it or keep it with their book.

5. Puppy Paw Print Painting

Materials: Washable paint, sponge cut into paw print shapes, paper.

Instructions: Dip the sponge into paint and stamp paw prints across the page. Kids can recreate Biscuit’s adventures by making a "trail" of paw prints.

Biscuit the Dog Activities for School or Storytime

Teachers and parents love using Biscuit stories in the classroom because they naturally tie into early literacy skills. Here are a few engaging Biscuit the Dog activities for school:

Sight Word Hunt

Choose a Biscuit book and highlight common sight words like "Biscuit", "woof", "no", or "yes". Have students find and circle these words as you read together. Print this free list on cardstock, cut out, and have a word hunt around the room.

Retelling with Puppets

Create simple Biscuit stick puppets and encourage kids to retell the story in their own words. This builds comprehension and sequencing skills. Or purchase this stuffed animal Biscuit.

Yes/No Sorting Game

Since Biscuit often hears "Yes, Biscuit!" or "No, Biscuit!" create a sorting game where kids place pictures of actions into the "yes" or "no" category (example: Biscuit eating dinner = yes, Biscuit spilling water = no).

Biscuit Adventure Writing Prompt

For older preschoolers or early elementary students, ask: "What adventure should Biscuit go on next?" Let them draw a picture and dictate or write a few sentences.

Making Reading Fun with Biscuit

The beauty of Biscuit books is that they make reading approachable, fun, and memorable. By pairing the stories with Biscuit crafts and activities, you can reinforce literacy skills, encourage creativity, and build a stronger love of reading at home or in the classroom.

When I couldn’t find much online for Biscuit the Dog craft ideas, I knew other parents and teachers were probably in the same boat. That’s why I put this list together and created a free printable to make it easier for you to enjoy the books beyond story time.
