Outdoor Activities To Do With Your Kids

Spending time in nature is good for you and offers many health benefits. Whenever you and your kids feel bored around the house, it may be an opportunity to get outside and participate in some various activities.

Outdoor Activities To Do With Your Kids

The following ideas are excellent and engaging items to add to your list of possibilities. You might want to propose these suggestions to your kids and see what they’re in the mood for and prefer doing. Mix it up each week, so you keep it interesting. No matter what you choose to do, put your phone away and be present so you can enjoy quality time with your kids. Most importantly, allow yourself to let loose a bit and laugh and have fun.

Take A Hike or Bike Ride

Whenever you have the itch to get outside, consider taking a hike or bike ride. You'll not only have the benefits of spending time in nature but also get some exercise. You'll be having fun and teaching your kids positive habits that will benefit their health. You can check out some new hiking trails in the area or take your bikes out for a ride to get some ice cream after dinner. If you don't have a bike, you can consider renting one, which can make the ride more enjoyable and accessible. Many areas offer bike rental services, like this Aspen road bike rental that can help you explore the great outdoors on two wheels of your choice. Whether you prefer hiking or biking, these outdoor activities are a great way to connect with nature, get some exercise, and create lasting memories with your family.

Spend Time on the Water

Another outdoor activity you can do with your kids is to spend time on the water. For instance, you can go to the beach and play volleyball or take a boat out and go trout fishing in a lake. Being on the water or hanging out at the beach is a very peaceful and serene place and will put you all at ease for the day. You’ll be soaking up the sunshine and having a good time before you know it.

Teach Them to Garden

You can also choose to hang around the house and teach your kids how to garden, which is relaxing and will benefit your mental health too. Spend some time cleaning it up and planting vegetables and herbs you can pick later and eat. It’s an excellent option if you want to be outside but don’t want to travel far. Come prepared to give each person a job to do so that no one is bored or sitting around.

Have A Scavenger Hunt

Your kids will love going outside to participate in a scavenger hunt. There are many templates and ideas for what to hide and find online. Make it challenging, but not so hard that your kids become frustrated right away. Step in and help them out if you see they’re struggling so you can move the game along and keep everyone engaged.

Go Camping

Consider taking the whole family camping for a week or weekend if you want to spend time outdoors with your kids. There are so many fun ways to pass the time when you’re camping. For example, you can roast marshmallows by the campfire, take a nature walk, and find some water nearby you can cool off and play in. Come prepared with all the right camping gear to ensure it’s a successful trip and all have an enjoyable time.

  1. My family is definitely an outdoor kinda crew. We had a fantastic warm day today, so my kids hopped on their scooters as so as they got home from school. During the summer we are on the water like you mentioned. We canoe weekly. Great tips for enjoying nature together

  2. When my kids were home, we went camping every summer. We had a pool. They went swimming all the time. My one daughter was deathly scared of water. I took her to swimming lessons at the Y. I didn’t throw her in the water and hope she would learn. That might have scared her more. Now she takes every chance she can to swim. That’s one thing I made sure of is that my kids knew how to swim. I didn’t worry about them as much when they went to camp. We all rode bikes together and hiked. Plus we loved bowling, fishing, and of course some of the suggestions in your article. I like what you said about rotating the activities so things don’t get stale or boring. One thing they definitely did not enjoy was gardening. I did. All I heard was that’s boring. We like to do puzzles together. I pinned your activities. Stay Safe out there!
