As the temperature begins to cool and pumpkin spice makes its triumphant return, fall is letting us know it’s on its way.
Eager to get decorating and bring some of the cool crispness of fall indoors? Then make sure to read on, as we’ll show you some simple design trends that will help you transform your space for the coming season.
When to Change to Fall Décor
This question gets asked a lot, but there really is no one right answer here. The best advice is to start incorporating the seasonal change into your décor whenever it suits you. Of course, some find it easiest to start in one room and work their way throughout their home, weaving together colors, patterns, textures and accessories as they go. This can create a nice layered look for your home.
Pro tip: Bring the outdoors inside. To do so, try adding some seasonal foliage and candlesticks to dress up your mantel for fall. Things like pinecones, sticks and even dried leaves can be a striking addition to your décor. For an added touch of polis, place your assortment in a wooden, rustic or otherwise fall-themed bowl. A faux fur throw over a sofa or dining chair can add a luxurious element as well.
How to Add Fall Décor to Your Bedroom
Your bedroom and guest rooms can serve as great starting places to embrace the season. To do so, start by infusing your rooms with classic fall colors such as red, yellow, orange and gold. Smaller accessories such as pillows, duvets, cozy blankets and throws can be changed out from season to season fairly inexpensively while still making a big statement.
But if you’re looking for a more dramatic change — and a place to store all those fuzzy throws — updating your bedroom set can make a world of difference in your décor. For instance, rich wooden bedroom styles effortlessly fit in with fall, while canopied styles practically beg for someone to come curl up and take a nap.
And, of course, those with built-in storage offer peace of mind for when the season is over, as you’ll have the perfect place to keep all the décor until next year. As far as updating your guest room for fall, items like a sturdy dresser with plenty of drawers for guests’ clothes and travel bags are a must.
Also, don’t skimp on nightstands. Everyone likes to have a place to lay their phone, a good book and maybe a warm cup of tea or coffee. Investing in the right furniture can help you (and your guests) fall in love with your home all over again this fall season.
Pro tip: Try layering your accent pillows for a winning look. Start with a few neutral base pillows and then add in texture or patterned styles in warm fall hues.
How to Accessorize Autumn Throughout Your Home
Another great way to play up autumn is to swap out lightning, rugs, wall décor or other small accessory items. Now, this doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul. Instead, think of adding a floor lamp for a dose of extra warmth. You could even add a richly colored art piece in your entryway or over the dining room table to transform your space. Some of these pieces may be a permanent fixture in your home if you really like them. So, make sure that you are careful with your choices and scout out the best shops for your items. Companies like Antiques Boutique offer a world of beautiful antiques, decorative and vintage items which can make a room look aesthetically pleasing.
Pro tip: If you live in a more temperate climate, consider investing in a new outdoor rug or living set to enjoy the cooler weather in comfort.
Some Simple Touches Go a Long Way
Remember, you don’t need to add a ton of décor changes, especially if you highlight some well-crafted furniture with autumnal touches. So, pick one or a few of these trends to fully embrace fall in your home this season. Before you know it, you'll be cherishing the fall season — and your new or enhanced décor — in the months ahead.
I usually don't end up decorating for Fall much inside the house. I mainly decorate the front porch. I was walking through Kohls yesterday admiring all the Fall decor and pillows, so maybe I should add some Fall touches inside this year too!

The grandkids and I would go around the neighborhood pickup some beautiful leaves lying on the ground. We would also pick up some pine cones. I have a couple of really nice fall dishes. We dried the leaves and then shellacked them. After they were dried, we would get the Super Glue and make little rain/dew drops on the leaves Then we would spray the pine cones with an aerosol spray that has the aroma of fall. I loved arranging all the leaves and pine cones on the plate around a pumpkin voltive candle. It’s simple, pretty and smells yummy! If the smell started disappearing, I would cut up a cinnamon stick and place some or all the pieces under the leaves and pine cones or sometimes I would add them when I first started laying down the leaves, etc. I didn’t want to overdue the smell of the candle. I guess it was a personal decision. That’s how we brought the outdoors indoors

ReplyDeleteMy granddaughters gather different colored leaves and iron them between waxed paper. Then they decorate their room with them.
