I am a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam. This post is in partnership with them. All opinions are my own.
We love a good princess, and there’s nothing wrong with a happy ending. But the reality is kids today are gravitating toward grown-up stories. They may not be made with kids in mind (read: The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and That 70’s Show), but they’re watching. That’s why Netflix is reinventing family TV with shows like Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, available to stream now. The show serves up dark comedy that your big kids are probably ready for, whether you realize it or not.
As a member of the Netflix StreamTeam, I had the miserable opportunity to preview a screener of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Life for the Bauledaire children is very salty indeed because of Count Olaf, but I have whipped up an easy recipe that can bring a little sweet in to the mix without any misery.
saltines
2 sticks butter
1 cup light brown sugar
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
What You Do:
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Line pan with aluminum foil, spray with nonstick cooking spray, and arrange the saltines salt-side down in a single layer. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together and boil a few minutes until it turns a caramel color. Remove from the heat and pour over the crackers, covering them evenly.
- Put the pan into the oven and bake for 3 to 5 minutes, or until just bubbly, watching carefully. Remove from the oven and pour the chocolate chips over the crackers. When the chips melt a bit, spread them over the crackers with a knife.
- Transfer the pan to the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until completely cold. They will form one big sheet. Break up into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
Make sure to check out the trailer below. Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf is amazing!
