Looking for a Career Reset? Try One of These Tips

As a busy mom, you have probably put your dreams on the proverbial back burner for quite some time. Maybe you were a high-powered C-suite executive who had it all, only to realize that you simply could not do it all once children came into your life. Or maybe you had a job you loved but were let go due to across-the-board job cuts through no fault of your own, leading you to reconsider your next steps. Regardless of the reason, if you are ready for a career reset, continue reading to learn some steps you can take to accomplish your goals.

Go Back to School

One of the best ways to reinvent yourself is to invest in your education. If you have not previously completed an undergraduate degree, or you have, but you are looking for something else career-wise, you should look into going back to school. Consider getting a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. As a parent, you are already extremely well-versed in the ways of children. Becoming a teacher might be the perfect career pivot that will align your love of kids with your drive to help them learn, grow, and achieve their best throughout their formative years.

Curate a Professional Online Presence

No matter the reason for changing careers or pursuing a new one, it is important that your online presence reflects a business-forward persona. To start, you should review all of your social media accounts. Change everything to private and then begin cleaning house. Unfollow anyone or anything that does not bring value to your life or could be seen as a liability. Next, delete old photos or posts that do not show you in a good light. Finally, ask your friends and family members to do the same. Going forward, remember to keep your social media content clean. Basically, if you do not want your grandmother to see something, you should not post it.

It is also a good idea to create a LinkedIn account or update your current one. Watch this helpful video to learn how to make LinkedIn work for you.

Update Your Resume

If you have not updated your resume in quite a while, it is definitely in need of some TLC. Pull out your current resume and add any new jobs you have had since you last created it. Include volunteer work, earned certifications, fluent languages, etc. Once you are done, this document will be your building block to create resumes going forward. Find a resume-building tool online and use it to craft resumes that are specifically tailored to each job for which you are applying. Always remember to include keywords from the job posting and description to give yourself a better chance of making it into the hands of someone who will review it.
