Have you made any goals this year? One of the most common resolutions is to change our diets, but sometimes our body reacts to these changes. So what do you do when you have indigestion to worry about?
Eight out of 10 Americans are managing digestive issues. Surprisingly, the highest incidence of self-reported acid indigestion is people between ages 25 and 44. Once considered an issue of older adults, acid indigestion is more prevalent among young people due to their 24/7 lifestyles, stress, eating on the go, and changing diets.
1. Drink LOTS of Water. Most people know about eating more fiber to help with bloat, but if you aren't drinking enough water to break down that soluble fiber then you are going to make things worse. Most sites recommend 8 8oz glasses of water a day, but in recent studies it has been recommended to drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day.
2. Try Limiting Stress. Easier said than done, right? Especially in today's climate. But taking time out of your day to practice controlled breathing or some restful stressing movements like yoga, may help reduce some stress and anxiety. But if you find that those are not helping, talk to your doctor and they may refer you to some outside help like a therapist.
3. Eat Mindfully. What does this mean? It means taking time to chew your food and not taking too large of a bite at a time. This helps you to also actually pay attention when you are full and to not overindulge. Make healthier versions of the foods you love. I made Chicken Parm with fiber noodles, baked chicken, and low-fat cheese, but it was still delicious!
4. Exercise. I know, I know. But a brisk 30-minute walk everyday can help get things going. If you have injuries, talk to your doctor about other possible exercises to try. It's okay to try and then to have to try something else that works well for your body. Everyone is different, but just keep moving.
5. And if all else fails, try Boiron Acidil Meltaway Tablets. Boiron Acidil is a homeopathic medicine made with sustainably sourced, plant-based active ingredients. It is the #1 best-selling heartburn homeopathic medicine in natural food stores. Use Boiron Acidil Meltaway Tablets for occasional heartburn or acid indigestion symptoms. Symptoms may include upset stomach, bloating, and gas occurring from poor eating habits, overindulgence, or stress. Or they may be caused by trigger foods such as coffee, alcohol, citrus, and foods that are spicy, fried or high in fat. Acidil may be taken before a meal that contains a known "trigger food", or after a meal basically whenever symptoms strike. This product is appropriate for use by adults, or children 12 years and older. They are unflavored tablets so you can have Comfort Food Without the Discomfort. It is appropriate for use by adults and children who are 12 and older; Acidil has no known drug interactions.
