A Quick Kid Friendly Trip to Hilton Head

This summer started out super busy. My husband officiated a wedding, we had end of baseball season games, and my daughter participated in her first softball tournament! With all that going on, I don't know how we managed to squeeze in a quick trip to Hilton Head to celebrate my brother's birthday, but we somehow managed to.

My brother has been seriously asking me for a few years to go. My sister-in-law's family has a condo so the stay would be free. My mom went last year and I always made excuses in the past. Usually if my husband can't go, then I say I can't. But the reality is I could squeeze in at least two beach days if we left right after my daughter's softball practice that ended at almost 9 pm to make the four hour drive.

This was the farthest drive I have ever made by myself so I was very nervous. The closer I got to their condo, the more anxious I got. The tension in my shoulders was real. But we made it! The kids had slept almost the entire way. We only stopped once for gas and bathroom breaks. Because they had slept three hours, when we got there they weren't tired even though it was almost two in the morning by the time we got there. And I was so anxious that I needed to calm down first. We ended up not getting in bed and asleep until around 5 am.

I don't know if it was the fact that I wasn't in my own bed or what, but I woke up at 7:30 ready for the day and annoyed everyone was trying to sleep in. We only had TWO days here so we had to make it count, right? So I packed the kids up and headed to the beach. Except I couldn't remember how to get there. So my brother and sister-in-law (who aren't beach people) ended up joining me. Since that day was actually my brother's birthday, I told him we should do whatever he wanted to do. So we headed to the pool.

After a quick swim, my brother wanted to go play mini golf. We have fond memories of this growing up. And actually I hardly remember going to the beach at all when we would go on vacation (they were rare). My husband grew up going to Panama City Beach every summer and spending all day at the beach. I didn't think playing mini golf in the heat of the day was the best idea, but if that is what my brother wanted then I would follow suit. I made sure to bring water and it came in handy since my brother got too hot especially since he was carrying Peanut on his shoulders most of the time. haha

We left there and ate at this restaurant called Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse. My brother said it is his favorite. I wanted to try and get pictures of our food, but it was one of those places that bring the meat around on skewers. It was SO good plus the waitress over heard us talking about my brother's birthday (seriously no one prompted her) and she brought out a dessert/sang "Happy Birthday". It was very cool. That night we played some games and ate ice cream.

The next day I tried to let the kids sleep in. We had stayed up late two nights and they did so good, but again we only had one more day. So about nine, I woke them up and packed us up to head to the beach. We went on our own which my brother and sister-in-law were okay with. My umbrella had broke the day before so I didn't know how long we would last. We brought a Yeti tumbler full of ice, tons of water bottles, snacks, and plenty of sunscreen. So we were able to stay about four hours. I forgot any battery packs at home and my phone was low on battery so I started getting antsy. And that's when my brother asked if we wanted to go to the movies to watch "Detective Pikachu".

The kids LOVED the movie. And it was an older theater, but cooler than our local one because they had reclining seats and served drinks. For dinner we went to Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta House for dinner. No pictures there because my phone died. we did head to an local ice cream place (Kilwins in Hilton Head Shelter Cove) where my sister-in-law took pics. So yummy.

The next morning, everyone packed up and we did head to this local diner for brunch before we left - Stack's Pancakes of Hilton Head. That is such a cute little place, but highly recommended.

So that is the details on our quick little trip to Hilton Head. The drive home seemed SO LONG since we didn't leave at the best time and the kids were awake the entire drive home. But we made it and I'm so glad we did. I love creating memories with my little family and if you'd like to follow along on our adventures, please follow us on Instagram.

  1. Looks like you all had fun. I live in SC but we always go to Edisto for beach trips because it is so quiet. I love little quick trips like this but yeah.. it does seem like it takes forever to get home lol!

  2. Oh,how fun! Hilton Head is beautiful. It's been 9 years since my last trip there; would love to go back. I would not need convincing to go on a beach trip with a free room to stay in.
So glad you decided to go, looks like you had a great time with your brother.
We love Stacks -- they have great food!
