Families. We’ve all got one, but these days they’re starting to look less like The Cleavers and gone are the days of the white picket fence. My family was hardly picture perfect growing up. My parents were divorced and I had a hard time getting along with either step-parent. It was just my brother, me, and my half-sister that were there for each other. And then I met my husband's family. They look pretty picture perfect in every way, including taking me in and treating me like one of their own. We fight, but we would do anything for each other and that's really what it's all about. 

Grace and Frankie, Netflix's new funny and fearless original comedy featuring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, is a perfect example of how today’s families can shift, rearrange and blend in unexpected ways. When Grace and Frankie’s husbands leave them after 20 years of marriage - to be with each other - the women find themselves facing a change that they never expected, but they shift their perspective to get through it together with the support of their new blended family and, of course, a sense of humor.

I am trying to kick my weight loss journey back into gear. We joined a gym September of last year, but we stopped going when Peanut got sick, then the holidays happened, and then Hubby got his new job with the long commute and now we are back at square one. I wanted to get bathing suit body ready (I don't do bikinis, LOL), but alas that didn't happen. With my daughter out for the summer though, we are going to stay super busy. So what I am going to do on those mornings when I need to hit the road, but there's no time for breakfast?

 

I recently had the opportunity to review SlimQuick Pure Protein Powder. I have used protein powders in the past when I have been trying to lose weight. They can taste terrible or have a weird consistency, but SlimQuick doesn't. This is my favorite smoothie recipe. When you think about branching out and giving your baby something besides breast milk or formula, you want the best for them. Some moms make their own baby food, I tried for a while. It is starting to get warmer and warmer here in Georgia. Our days will once again include long lake stays and trips to the pool. One of my family's favorite summer activity is to lounge by and play in the pool. I can't wait until it is warm enough to relax poolside everyday. Having a body of water is a MUST to have a great summer party, in my opinion. I remember SweetPea's first time in the pool. I was so excited and nervous at the same time. I knew a smooth transition into the water could create a life-long love of swimming. Little ones need baby-steps when going from land roamer to pool dweller. That's why it's important to have the right tools to help ease the transition.

When we first introduced our babies to water, we always carried them in first. This way they could stay nice and warm up against us. With SweetPea, we started introducing her to water when she was five months old and with Peanut, he was about four. We started slow with each one, took their cues on when they wanted to get out, and didn't rush anything. It can be hard because you know they are going to have fun, but remember that it is a process.
